About Darby
I’ve always loved photography. It all started when my dad gave me this camera.

I was around 14 or 15 years old and I’d always loved that my dad had a REAL camera. Most of my friends parents owned Polaroids or small film cameras and I was always secretly proud that we had a big camera.

Thanks to my dad I have photos like this of me growing up. When I turned into a teenager I really thought it would be so cool to be on the yearbook as the photographer and so I asked for the camera. Needless to say I needed a lot of work on my photo skills!

After high school, and a few changes in my major, I finally found photography again. Ever since my first darkroom class I’ve never deviated from my path and passion for photography. I can still smell the darkroom when I look at these prints. It was an amazing foundation for my photography career to be in the room as the prints developed and to learn how photographs are actually made.

In the midst of being a photographer, I’ve also managed to meet and marry my wonderful husband, Jonathan. We were married in 2007 on the beautiful island of Ohau in Hawaii. This is from the day before we were married as we visited the Pearl Harbor Memorial.

Jonathan is immensely supportive of my passion and occasionally even sits in and poses for me when I’m prepping a scene for a session. He owns and runs his own company too, Withinmeans, a small firm dedicated to teaching people how to manage and budget their money.

In January 2009, we welcomed our first son into the world. Jonas is a healthy bouncing baby boy whose first year has been very well documented in pictures.

Our second son, Job Maxwell, was born April 17, 2010. He’s still a newbie, but we are excited to have him in our home as well.

I love my life, I love my family and I love photography. My goal at every wedding I attend is to enhance the entire experience. I’m very relaxed and aware of when the photographer should take charge, and when they should sit back and document real life.
